If you are the Playbook user and also a moivegoer with a Blu ray collection, to fully utilize the stunning media play functions of the Playbook, it will be a good idea to rip Blu ray movies to Playbook for watching when you commute or travel. What is you'll need?
- Pavtube Blu ray ripper(free trial, $49 to keep)
- A Windows PC (the Blu-ray ripping process is, at the moment, Mac-unfriendly. I used Windows 7 Beta 64-bit and all the following software is Windows-only)
- A Blu-ray drive (I used OWC's new Mercury Pro multi-interface external)
- A decent understanding of how video codecs and containers work
Instruction to rip/convert Blu ray to Blackberry Playbook with Pavtube Blu ray ripper
Step 1. Free Download Pavtube Blu ray ripper, install and run it.
Once run the program, click the blu-ray disc icon or blu-ray folder icon at the top-left corner of the main interface to import your bluray movie files.
Tip: After loading Blu-ray movie files into this program, you are allowed to select your wanted subtitle and audio track from the "Subtitle" and "Audio" options. At the same time, you could easily join Blu-ray chapters to get a large file by checking "Merge into one file".
Step 2. Select the proper output format for Blackberry Playbook.
To play videos on Blackberry PlayBook, you need to set a compatible format for the tablet. You may click on the pull down menu of ¡°Format¡± to choose a format for the tablet. According to RIM, the Blackberry PlayBook supports H.264, MPEG, DivX and WMV videos up to 1080p.
For playing back 1080p HD video via HDMI port, just select ¡°HD Video¡±>> ¡°DivX HD (*.avi)¡±. This format creates 1080p DivX AVI video that plays stunning videos on HDTV from Blackberry PlayBook.
Step 3. Click ¡°Settings¡± button to adjust audio and video parameters
You are allowed to adjust codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channel in the popup window to optimize the output file quality. We recommend you to set output size at ¡°1024*600¡± (you need type ¡°1024*600¡± by yourselves manually) to get full HD screen movie enjoyment on BB-PlayBook, cause the higher bitrate, the better video quality while the larger file size.
Step 4. Start ripping and converting Blu ray to Blackberry Playbook
Once the above mentioned steps are finished, you can click ¡°Convert¡± button to rip Blu-ray (BD) to Blackberry Playbook. Once the conversion task is completed, you can click ¡°Open¡± button to get the final playbook-friendly video files.
Step 5. Copy and transfer the ripped Blu ray files to your Playbook
Gather all of output video files in a central folder on your desktop, use a USB cable to connect the BlackBerry PlayBook to your PC, and then Drag and drop it into your "Videos" folder on your BlackBerry Playbook. Done !
Tip: To transfer media files between a Windows based PC and PlayBook via USB, the BlackBerry Device Manager is needed to be installed.
